The project site is distinguished by a very unique and sensitive location facing the river with 10m height difference. It is recommended to create a direct connection between the project open space and the river as well the project itself, also the project have to be integrated within the surrounding area and treated not to block the river view with the respect to the surroundings. The site have almost a flat surface which may allow to create a soft infrastructure with a multi levels open spaces the connection between the two banks through. Porto is a city of paradox.
River and city, wine and culture, Architecture and inheritance, chaos and calmness and enigma of economic developments makes Porto city unique in its character. The connection between city and the river is the most important junction of the Porto city. The project site shares the same location.
The concept follows the same contradiction of space and experience that is the benchmark of Porto city its an attempt to create a journey from mass to chunk and from shadow to light by considering the site context where a large mass of museum of transportation is on the one side and the other side has the fragments of residential units.
So, the project has not a formal begging and ending but a continuity of exploration journey where activities are acting as the magnets to encourage the movement of people in the site. Embedded in the ground; to maximize the connection between river and the city. Our project offers a journey from introvert to extrovert spaces.
This project starts with a main approach which can attract people from the existing plaza on the site and the staircase that connects the main residential area to the main street. Then people will decent from a transitional area which is transitional in both means of space and also function. The suggested material for exterior finishing is concrete to keep the boldness and glass for lightness and transparency of spaces and for interior spaces there will be functional walls, (as livable walls and structure) and also Poly-carbonate to make curiosity more touchable. So, the concept of transition would be visible from the facade also not merely from the organization of spaces.
