In Italy the main flooding threat is given by the main Italian river, the Po, that runs on a huge plain crossing east-west the entire northern Italy. It tends nowadays to flood the surrounding areas with a frequency that is way higher than in the past.
This, combined with the increased water level registered in the Mediterranean sea and the increased soil sealing imposed by the urbanization, poses a serious threat to the entire basin, either in the eastern part where flash floods can assume huge proportions, as well as the western part where entire cities faces the threat of sinking.

SOLUTION
This project offered a unique opportunity to redesign the riverbanks of the Trebbia river which needed work to be conducted for the hydraulic arrangement of the bank. It gave us a chance to rethink the river from the point of view of the landscape, making it a centrality by reactivating the descents to the river.
This project starts from analyzing the flood risk of the river Po and river Trebbia, that alternate dry periods with periods of great water flow, creating difficulties to the surrounding areas and to the natural environment. From this is achieved the idea of water management, redesigning the morphology of this area by the use of "cut and fill" method. With these new design, water can stay for a longer period in some specific parts of the riverside, helping to reduce the Po river to have less impact from Trebbia when its flooding, becoming also useful for the implementation of activities for the guests.The project will have different aspects depending on the dry or flood season.
The project identifies a continuous route with descents to the river and tries to combine all of the different requirements and demands. It was essential to create more direct relations between the river and the city's activities and also making a community to improve the quality of relations between citizens.
In the project there are three main points, which refer to what happens outside the area.This brings relations between entertainment places, sport facilities and residential parks, extending the range of possibilities in support of the locals and future new tourists.

Terraced land forms serve as storm water management infrastructure, which provides opportunity for both cultural programs and urban productions, Also according to the different seasons the activities will change, the board-walk was designed to still function in the flood season.
